Alpha Course

For twelve weeks up to 60 guests gathered at Our Lady of Grace to have dinner together and share the Alpha Course. Rev Nicky Gumbel, a former barrister, presents the now world-famous overview of the Christian faith on DVD. Each week, he focuses on a different element of our faith, presenting the case for Christ, in a lively and enthralling manner.

The themes of Nicky’s talk cover such questions as “Who is Jesus & why did he die?”, Why & how do we read the Bible or pray?, How does God guide us & does He heal today? How can I make the most of the rest of my life?

Each evening starts with dinner (Chilli con Carne, Chicken Madras, Spaghetti Bolognese, Honeyed Sausages in baps with Mixed Salad, Macaroni Cheese, Baked Potatoes with grated cheese & baked beans, Beef Stew, Pork Goulash with Tagliatelle), followed by the talk on DVD.

The guests then return to their table for cake, coffee and discussion. Over the twelve weeks, new friendships are formed and the dinners become a real social. Guests take it in turns to bring a bottle or two of wine or some cakes.

Nicky Gumbel’s Alpha presentations offer something for everyone, and the audience may range from outright Atheists to dyed-in-the-wool cradle Catholics, with every shade of agnosticism in between.

The emphasis is on sharing and teamwork, each table has a host or couple to welcome the guests and create a warm atmosphere for the discussions.

Music is very much part of the Alpha experience, creating a space for the spiritual and allowing guests the opportunity to explore a new relationship with the divine.

Our grateful thanks to Nicky Gumbel and Holy Trinity Brompton for bringing new life to the Church by encouraging people to meet Christ in their local church community.
